Collection: Vocab Hunt

Vocab Hunt Rules

The definition at the top of the page and the vocabulary word at the bottom are NEVER a match (this is intended).

Be sure to instruct students to ALWAYS start with the vocabulary word on the bottom. Their task, after viewing the vocabulary word at the bottom, is to find the matching definition on the TOP of a DIFFERENT card. Once they find a match, they will record both the WORD and the matching definition on their answer sheet.

Hang the 10 full pages around the classroom. Do NOT cut them in half. After hanging the pages, allow students to start at ANY page.

After students record their answers, while standing at the same page where they found the definition, tell them to look DOWN to the vocabulary word on the bottom of the same page. Repeat the process by finding the matching definition and recording answers.

If students end up back where they started BEFORE completing all ten words, they made a mistake along the way. Do NOT tell them where they made the mistake. Allow them to use deductive reasoning to pinpoint where they made an error and let them try again. You may want to have a few extra copies of the recording sheet printed just in case.

If they successfully fill in their answer sheet with ten different words, 10 different definitions, and visited 10 different pages, they have correctly completed the activity.
